Role Overview

As a Waitron, you will be responsible for preparing and delivering exceptional food and beverage services. You will work in accordance with our standard operating procedures (SOPs), ensuring that service is delivered promptly, professionally, and to the highest standards. Your role will involve interacting with guests, taking orders, upselling menu items, and maintaining the cleanliness of your section to create an inviting dining experience.

Key Responsibilities

Prepared Work Area

  • Prepare mise-en-place, set up place settings, and complete any necessary checks and preparations before service begins.

  • Set up and break down for functions, following event-specific requirements and timelines.

  • Identify any issues related to the appearance or functionality of the outlet’s equipment and systems.

  • Maintain cleanliness in your section, ensuring all areas are prepared for efficient service.

  • Comply with all health, safety, hygiene, and environmental regulations to ensure a safe and clean working environment.

  • Properly use and store operating equipment in line with safety specifications.

  • Participate in stock takes and report any discrepancies or anomalies.

Service Execution

  • Stay updated on food products, trends, and cooking methodologies to provide the best recommendations to guests.

  • Execute tasks in line with Food & Beverage standard operating procedures to ensure service excellence.

  • Take guest orders accurately and efficiently, entering them into the system without delay.

  • Explain menu items clearly and make suggestions for beverages and additional menu items to enhance the dining experience.

  • Communicate with kitchen staff regarding any special requests from guests and ensure prompt fulfillment.

  • Deliver food and beverage orders in line with service standards and presentation requirements.

  • Be attentive to guest requests and provide any necessary assistance during their meal.

  • Clear tables promptly after guests have finished their meals, ensuring a tidy dining space.

  • Provide guests with billing where applicable and assist with cash-ups at the end of service.

  • Use upselling techniques to promote promotional items and boost sales.

Customer Engagement

  • Provide a warm welcome to every guest, greet them with a friendly smile, and acknowledge them on both arrival and departure to make them feel valued.

  • Engage with guests throughout their visit, addressing their needs and ensuring that service standards are consistently met.

  • Understand guest preferences and tailor your service accordingly to enhance the overall experience.

  • Educate guests on the restaurant’s facilities, available promotions, and loyalty programs.

  • Address any customer complaints or requests with professionalism, resolving issues promptly or escalating them when necessary.

Requirements

Education

  • Grade 12 preferred or Grade 10 with relevant experience.

Experience

  • A minimum of 2 years experience as a waiter, preferably within a fast-paced hospitality environment.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Food and Beverage Product Knowledge: An understanding of the menu, food preparation, and beverage service techniques.

  • Food Service: Knowledge of restaurant service protocols and presentation standards.

  • Beverage Service: Familiarity with beverage offerings and the ability to serve them professionally.

  • Upselling Skills: Ability to recommend menu items, enhance guest experience, and increase revenue.

  • Basic Computer Literacy: Familiarity with POS systems and basic computer functions.

  • Cashiering Services: Understanding of handling payments and cash-ups accurately.

  • Problem-Solving: Ability to address issues quickly and effectively.
