Job Overview:

PG Group is seeking a highly skilled Automation Project Manager to join our team at Shatterprufe® in Port Elizabeth. This role involves overseeing key automation projects, ensuring that they meet project scope, customer expectations, and operational goals. The successful candidate will have in-depth knowledge of Shatterprufe’s equipment and automation processes and will be tasked with executing projects to enhance plant capabilities, improve efficiencies, and drive profitability.

Key Responsibilities:

• Project Management:

  • Oversee all automation projects, ensuring that they are completed on time, within scope, and according to customer expectations.

  • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders, including site engineers and suppliers, to ensure smooth project execution.

  • Manage the design, installation, and commissioning of automation systems and equipment in line with project requirements.

• Technical Support:

  • Provide technical assistance to all sites for troubleshooting and improving equipment and systems, focusing on breakdowns, cycle times, and efficiency.

  • Offer consultation on complex automation and technical issues, helping sites implement effective solutions.

• Communication & Documentation:

  • Maintain effective communication with all project stakeholders, providing regular updates on project progress and scope changes.

  • Compile and archive electronic drawings and other project documentation in the relevant site technical drives.

  • Ensure software backups are completed and provided to Site Engineering at the end of the project to maintain data integrity.

• Training & Handover:

  • Develop and provide training manuals to the production team to facilitate the roll-out of new installations and projects.

  • Ensure the smooth handover of projects to operational teams, including the proper training and documentation for ongoing operations.

• Continuous Improvement:

  • Work closely with production and engineering teams to identify areas for automation improvements that drive greater efficiencies and cost savings.

  • Ensure that all projects adhere to safety, quality, and environmental standards.

Critical Job Requirements:

• Educational Qualifications:

  • Grade 12 (Matric)

  • Diploma in Electrical Engineering

• Experience & Skills:

  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in project automation, with a focus on coordinating and managing diverse teams and suppliers.

  • Expertise in automation systems, including PLC programming (Rockwell and Siemens), AC/DC servo drive configuration, SCADA design (Wonderware, FactoryTalk View), and industrial network configuration.

  • Proven experience in robot configuration, particularly Fanuc robots, and automation within an automotive glass manufacturing environment.

  • Strong knowledge of CAD-based electrical design and documentation.

  • Ability to handle contractor and project management tasks efficiently.

• Technical Knowledge:

  • PLC Programming (particularly Allen Bradley).

  • SCADA Development and experience with Microsoft SQL databases.

  • Industrial Protocol Integration (Controlnet, Devicenet, ProfinetNet, Modbus TCP, EthernetIP, Ioloink).

  • Experience with safety circuit design and low to medium voltage circuit design.
