Introduction

Purpose of Job
To implement health and safety programs, conduct safety inspections, and facilitate risk assessments to maintain a safe and healthy work environment at Sasol.

Key Responsibilities

  • Planning & Execution: Develop and execute safety plans for shutdowns and issue-based safety interventions. Ensure all work activities align with SHE focus areas.
  • SHE Risk Assessment & Management: Facilitate the identification and management of occupational safety hazards and risks, implementing corrective actions and preventive measures.
  • Safety Audits: Conduct safety audits, including lock-out audits, logbook audits, and legal appointment audits. Focus on risk-based assurance audits with attention to critical safety controls.
  • Incident Investigation: Identify non-conformances, conduct investigations, and perform root-cause analysis to address incidents, including workplace and organizational factors.
  • Safety Improvement: Monitor and review safety trends, implement improvements, and proactively address hazards.
  • Safety Communication & Awareness: Lead safety inspections, develop and communicate safety awareness materials, and facilitate safety meetings, toolbox talks, and other safety communication initiatives.
  • Change Management: Implement change management processes, ensuring safety improvements and effective communication with the team.

Formal Education

  • Grade 12 / Matric

Working Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in occupational safety and health.

Licenses

  • Valid Code 8 driver’s license

Required Personal and Professional Skills

  • Business Insight: Understanding of operational and safety-related factors.
  • Complexity Management: Ability to manage complexity in safety environments.
  • Planning & Alignment: Excellent planning and organizational skills to align safety activities with business objectives.
  • Safety Management: Knowledge of SHE policies, procedures, safety principles, and techniques.
  • Action-Oriented & Accountable: Proven ability to take ownership and drive results in a safety-focused environment.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills to effectively share safety information and engage employees.
