Purpose of the Job:

A Boilermaker in a truck panel shop fabricates and assembles metal components for truck bodies, ensuring precision and quality while adhering to safety protocols. They collaborate with team members to meet project deadlines, perform repairs, maintain equipment, and document their work accurately.


Key Responsibilities:

  1. Metal Fabrication & Welding:
    • Manage the overall condition of vehicles in the fleet.
    • Cut, shape, and assemble metal components accurately for truck bodies.
    • Use tools like plasma cutters, grinders, and shears proficiently.
    • Perform relevant welding techniques to execute tasks with precision.
    • Stay updated with welding and fabrication techniques and technologies.
    • Select appropriate materials based on project specifications.
    • Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications.
    • Accurately measure and mark metal components for proper alignment and fit.
    • Conduct repairs on damaged truck body components and perform routine maintenance.
  2. Quality Control & Safety Compliance:
    • Inspect finished products to ensure they meet quality standards.
    • Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines during all tasks.
    • Regularly maintain and clean welding and fabrication equipment.
    • Identify and troubleshoot issues in the fabrication process.
  3. Collaboration & Communication:
    • Communicate effectively with team members to coordinate tasks and workflow.
    • Work closely with foremen/managers to ensure high-quality output.
    • Complete tasks within the specified project timelines.
    • Maintain accurate documentation of work performed, including materials used and time spent on projects.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Education: Grade 12 (Matric).
  • Qualifications: Red Seal Trade Certificate.
  • Experience: 5+ years of relevant working experience in metal fabrication and welding.

Skills Required:

  • Impeccable attention to detail for precise measurements, proper alignment, and high-quality standards.
  • Superior safety awareness and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Proficiency in cutting, shaping, and welding metal components.
  • Skilled use of tools like plasma cutters, grinders, and shears.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications.

Knowledge Required:

  • Knowledge of general safety practices and protocols within a workshop environment.
  • Sound understanding of metal fabrication and welding techniques.
  • Knowledge of oxy fuel heating and cutting, the use of jigs, fixtures, and rotators, and welding various types of steel.
