Job Overview:
Afrimat Cement Plant is seeking a Handyman to join their team. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring trades work is completed safely, adhering to quality requirements, and providing troubleshooting expertise when needed. The role requires compliance with safety standards and the ability to work in a heavy industrial environment.
Minimum Qualifications & Experience:
- Education:
- Matric (Grade 12) or N2 qualification.
- Trade Test:
- Fitter or Fitter and Turner Trade (Red Seal).
- Experience:
- 2 years’ experience in the Heavy or Cement Industry.
- Medical Fitness:
- Must be medically fit to work on a mine.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work Completion:
- Ensure assigned trades work is completed safely and in accordance with company policy, statutory requirements, and quality standards.
- Work Orders & Emergency Response:
- Initiate and complete Work Orders, ensuring timely sign-off and providing relevant feedback.
- Respond immediately to emergency work orders.
- Troubleshooting & Feedback:
- Provide troubleshooting expertise as needed.
- Provide daily feedback to the Supervisor on progress, work completed, and reasons for delays.
- Safety Compliance:
- Ensure mechanical work is performed in line with safety requirements.
- Report plant running in a dangerous condition and safety breaches.
- Team Collaboration & Supervision:
- Contribute to the safe working environment and participate in Safety Tool Box Meetings.
- Supervise apprentices and assist with maintenance operations.
- Continuous Improvement:
- Contribute ideas for continuous improvement and assist in the development of job procedures.
- Report plant defects to the foreman and offer solutions to minimize reoccurrence.
