Job Overview:

Afrimat Aggregates Operations, based in Gqeberha, is looking for a Quarry Manager to oversee the operation of the quarry. The role includes ensuring compliance with all safety and legal requirements, managing employees and equipment, achieving financial targets, and maintaining a high standard of quality and performance.


Minimum Qualifications & Experience:

  • Education:
    • Matric (Grade 12)
    • A technical qualification and blasting ticket will be advantageous.
    • Competent A certification (Examine and Make Safe).
  • Experience:
    • Sound knowledge and understanding of the mining environment.
    • Good understanding of legal aspects pertaining to the quarry.
    • Experience in managing quarry operations is preferred.
  • Skills:
    • Computer literate.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Strong planning, decision-making, leadership, and financial management skills.
    • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
    • Ability to work both as part of a team and independently.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Safety & Compliance:
    • Ensure compliance with the Mine Health and Safety Act and other relevant regulations.
    • Maintain the quarry site to specified housekeeping standards.
    • Execute responsibilities as per legal appointment.
  • Financial Management:
    • Achieve financial targets and manage costs in line with the budget.
  • Operations Management:
    • Oversee day-to-day quarry operations, ensuring standards for quality, output, and processes are met.
    • Manage and train employees to ensure competency in their roles and adherence to policies and procedures.
  • Equipment & Customer Management:
    • Ensure all quarry equipment is in good working order and properly maintained.
    • Maintain regular communication with clients and ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Reporting & Performance Management:
    • Report and communicate results accurately on a regular basis.
    • Drive a high-performance culture and manage results in a high-pressure environment.
