About the Role:

takealot.com, South Africa’s leading online retailer, is seeking a Sales & Account Team Lead to join our dynamic and innovative team in Cape Town. This role involves driving sales team performance, implementing strategic plans for growth, and building strong relationships with sellers. Reporting directly to the Marketplace Sales Manager, this position offers an opportunity to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of e-commerce in Africa.


Key Responsibilities:

Sales Performance:

  • Drive team performance to meet and exceed acquisition targets.
  • Build and execute a strategic acquisition roadmap for each category in collaboration with stakeholders.
  • Ensure adherence to sales processes and maintain accurate, complete sales platform data.

Process and Efficiency Optimization:

  • Identify shortfalls in sales processes and implement improvements.
  • Create and manage sales dashboards to track key productivity metrics.

Commercial Performance:

  • Drive business unit performance against set targets.
  • Develop and execute growth plans for strategic sellers.
  • Address under-performance within the seller base through targeted interventions.

Team Leadership:

  • Manage and support Sales & Account Managers in their daily operations.
  • Recruit, onboard, and train new Sales & Account Managers.
  • Collaborate with the Marketplace Sales Manager to set monthly goals aligned with business targets.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or relevant tertiary qualification.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a sales environment.
  • At least 3 years of management experience, including leading a sales team.
  • Proficient in Salesforce or similar CRM systems.
  • eCommerce experience is preferred but not mandatory.

  • Exceptional communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Attention to detail with strong organizational abilities.
  • Proven negotiation and closing skills.
  • Commercial acumen with a deep understanding of business value drivers.
  • High standards and a results-driven mindset.
