Purpose of the Role:

Dis-Chem Pharmacies seeks Casual Cashiers for its Tubatse store as part of a strategic talent pool. This pool is a pre-screened group of individuals with specific qualifications or attributes suited to future job opportunities.

The position supports customer service at the point of sale while delivering a world-class shopping experience. The role includes recording transactions accurately according to company policies and minimizing fraud risks.


Minimum Requirements:

Essential:

  • Grade 12 / Matric.
  • At least 6 months of experience in cashier or till operations.
  • Computer literacy (MS Office).
  • Sound numerical skills.
  • Strong command of English (spoken and written).
  • Basic customer service skills.
  • Availability to work retail hours.

Advantageous:

  • Proficiency in a third additional language.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver excellent customer service following Dis-Chem’s policies and procedures.
  • Establish professional relationships with customers.
  • Report complaints and compliments to the Frontline Supervisor or management.
  • Achieve and maintain the hourly customer turnover rate.
  • Stay informed about current sales and promotions.
  • Manage cash flow and ensure accurate processing of transactions.
  • Secure all money and items in the till.
  • Process payments, refunds, loyalty cards, and accelerator partner cards.
  • Monitor and report suspicious behavior.
  • Address customer inquiries and handle merchandise exchanges or returns.
  • Follow Dis-Chem’s security policies and procedures.

Competencies:

Essential:

  • Strong knowledge of operating cash registers and cash drawer management.
  • Skills in processing sales, refunds, and payments.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Presentable, trustworthy, and socially aware.
  • Problem-solving, time-management, and accountability skills.
  • Effective communication skills in English.

Special Conditions of Employment:

  • Willingness to work retail hours.
  • Reliable transport or residence near the store.
  • South African citizenship.
  • Clear credit and criminal records.
