Dis-Chem Pharmacies seeks a customer-focused Cashier for a fixed-term role at their Walmer Park store. This position is ideal for candidates who are enthusiastic about providing excellent customer service and accurate transaction handling in a fast-paced retail environment.

Key Responsibilities

Customer Service Excellence

• Support a positive shopping experience by assisting customers at the checkout and addressing any queries.
• Maintain a professional relationship with customers and report feedback to supervisors.
• Stay updated on promotions and ensure that policies are followed to provide a seamless experience.

Transaction Handling and Cash Management

• Process all types of payments using Dis-Chem’s operating system, ensuring adherence to company procedures and accurate transaction records.
• Manage cash flow responsibly, placing cash in drop safes as per Standard Operating Procedures.
• Safeguard access to tills by ensuring password and code security.

Product and Merchandise Assistance

• Provide information to customers about store merchandise and assist with exchanges and returns.
• Respond to queries about product availability and promotions.

Security and Confidentiality

• Monitor for any suspicious activity and report concerns to management.
• Adhere strictly to Dis-Chem’s security policies to protect customer and store assets.

Minimum Requirements

Essential Qualifications and Experience

• Education: Grade 12 / Matric.
• Experience: Minimum of six months in cashier or till operations.
• Technical Skills: Proficient in MS Office and comfortable with in-store operating systems.
• Numerical Skills: Accurate with calculations and cash handling.
• Customer Service: Basic experience providing customer service in a retail setting.

Core Competencies

• Cash Handling: Skilled in cash drawer management and processing transactions.
• Communication: Strong English language skills, both spoken and written.
• Attention to Detail: Focused on accuracy in transactions.
• Professionalism: Presentable with a positive demeanor.
• Reliability: Punctual and consistent in meeting work commitments.

Preferred Skills

• Language Skills: Ability to speak a third language is an advantage.

Conditions of Employment
