Dis-Chem Pharmacies is seeking a dependable and service-oriented Cashier for a fixed-term role at our Jeffrey’s Bay store. If you have experience in cashiering and enjoy creating a positive shopping experience, we invite you to join our team. Your role will be to manage transactions, maintain a friendly customer experience, and adhere to Dis-Chem’s operational procedures for cash handling.

Key Responsibilities

Customer Service Excellence

  • Provide efficient service, assisting customers with purchases at the checkout and promoting a welcoming store environment.
  • Build professional relationships with customers, offering support with questions and concerns.
  • Report any customer feedback to the Frontline Supervisor or store management to ensure ongoing improvements in service.
  • Stay informed of current promotions to provide accurate information to customers.

Transaction Handling and Cash Management

  • Process sales accurately using Dis-Chem’s operating system, ensuring proper handling of payments and store policies.
  • Manage cash flow effectively, including processing various payment methods (cash, bank cards, loyalty programs) and securing funds in drop safes.
  • Limit till access to authorized use by safeguarding passwords and ensuring that personal credentials are kept confidential and updated.

Product and Merchandise Assistance

  • Assist customers in locating products and resolving merchandise inquiries.
  • Process exchanges and returns for authorized products according to company policy.

Security and Confidentiality

  • Remain vigilant to prevent theft or suspicious activities, notifying management of any concerns.
  • Adhere to Dis-Chem’s security policies to ensure a safe shopping environment.

Minimum Requirements

Essential Qualifications and Experience

  • Education: Grade 12 / Matric.
  • Experience: At least six months of cashier or till operations experience.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in MS Office; comfortable with Dis-Chem’s operating system.
  • Numerical Skills: Solid math skills for handling cash and transactions.
  • Customer Service: Basic knowledge of customer service practices to enhance the shopping experience.

Core Competencies

  • Cash Management: Proficiency in managing cash drawers, processing sales, and handling returns.
  • Communication: Fluent in English, both written and spoken, to effectively interact with customers and colleagues.
  • Attention to Detail: Ensures accuracy in handling transactions and managing cash.
  • Professional Appearance: Maintains a presentable appearance in line with company standards.
  • Reliability: Manages time efficiently and consistently meets work commitments.

Preferred Skills

  • Multilingual Ability: Ability to speak a third language is an asset.

Conditions of Employment

  • Ability to work retail hours, including weekends and holidays, based on the store’s schedule.
  • Reliable transportation or residence near the store to ensure punctuality.
  • South African citizenship with a clean credit and criminal record.
