The University of the Western Cape (UWC) is internationally recognized for its contributions to democratic change in South Africa and quality education accessibility. UWC’s Faculty of Natural Sciences invites applications from enthusiastic candidates who are motivated to make significant contributions to the Statistics and Population Studies Department. The department offers an MSc in Statistical Sciences with a specialization in Data Science and seeks candidates who can contribute to the development of future statisticians, data analysts, and data scientists.
Key Responsibilities:
- Teaching: Facilitate learning at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in Statistics and Data Science.
- Research: Conduct research and publish on topics related to Statistics or Data Science.
- Supervision: Provide undergraduate and postgraduate supervision, especially for honours students.
- Leadership: Offer academic leadership in areas like curriculum development, learning assessments, and faculty initiatives.
- Community Engagement: Engage in outreach and industry-related activities relevant to the department’s objectives.
Minimum Requirements:
- Education: MSc in Statistics, Data Science, or Mathematical Statistics.
- Teaching Experience: Demonstrated experience teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels in Statistics or Data Science.
- PhD Registration: Currently enrolled in a PhD program in Statistics, Data Science, or Mathematical Statistics.
- Supervision Experience: Record of successful honours level supervision.
- Publications: A track record of quality peer-reviewed publications or peer-reviewed technical reports submitted in industry.
- Technical Skills: Expertise in statistical and data science techniques using SAS, R, and/or Python.
