Section Ranger – Woody Cape Job Opportunity

Location: Addo Elephant National Park

An exciting and challenging opportunity is available for a Section Ranger at Woody Cape Section within Addo Elephant National Park. This role is key in ensuring the conservation and protection of one of South Africa’s most renowned natural reserves.

Requirements:

  • National Diploma in Nature Conservation or a related Degree in Conservation fields.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the Conservation field, with at least 3 years in management and supervisory roles.
  • Firearm competency and the ability to handle a wide range of firearms are essential.
  • Code 08 Driver’s License.
  • EMI Grade 2 preferred, minimum Grade 5 required.
  • High level of fitness and mental alertness.
  • No criminal record – SAPS screening and Integrity Testing will be done.
  • Strong communication, conflict resolution, project management, and liaison skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Email, and Internet.
  • Ability to work under challenging and hazardous conditions.
  • Willingness to work irregular hours (including anti-poaching efforts and other emergencies).
  • Must be able to swim, operate boats in open waters and rivers, and fly in small aircraft and helicopters.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure territorial integrity, including law enforcement and managing information related to adjacent areas and communities.
  • Implement and administer Conservation Policy in line with operational plans and relevant legislation.
  • Manage natural resources, including controlling invasive plants, alien animals, and soil erosion.
  • Foster relationships with park users, stakeholders, and associated organizations.
  • Oversee the technical infrastructure and financial management of the section, including budget preparation.
  • Human Resources management for the section.
  • Provide input on environmental matters such as Environmental Impact Assessments.
  • Ensure control over visitor activities, ensuring safety and security.
  • Assist with Sea bird monitoring and rehabilitation on the Algoa Bay Islands.

Salary Range:

R316,318.83 – R487,419.13 per annum, with allowances and benefits according to SANParks’ HR Tariff Document and Conditions of Service.
