Purpose of the Job:

The Paralegal (High Court) is responsible for providing general management, administrative, and technical legal support to attorneys.

Key Performance Areas:

1. General Management and Support to Attorneys:

  • Assist attorneys with research.
  • Search and verify public records.
  • Support in interviewing clients and witnesses.
  • Collect, retrieve, and analyze information relevant to litigation cases.
  • Assist in trial preparation and general trial support.
  • Analyze and research information for reporting purposes.

2. Document Management:

  • Assist in preparing legal documents, arguments, and briefs.
  • Summarize depositions and other legal documents.
  • Draft discovery documents and prepare pleadings.
  • Organize and manage cases and maintain updated file registers.

3. Reporting:

  • Contribute to the preparation and submission of regulation reports.
  • Develop functional reporting systems for management, project, or performance reporting.
  • Perform periodic and regular reporting submissions to update and inform management decisions.

4. Stakeholder Management:

  • Foster proactive relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Respond to inquiries and information requests from both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Maintain relationships with vendors and service providers, ensuring timely invoicing and payment for procured items.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in law or equivalent.
  • 3 years of relevant experience in a legal environment.

Technical and Behavioural Competencies:

  • Legislation and regulatory knowledge.
  • Ethics and compliance.
  • Public Finance Management Act (PFMA) knowledge.
  • Drafting, negotiation, and claims litigation skills.
  • Knowledge of MVA law and legislation.

  • Strong planning, organizational, and coordination abilities.
  • Client service orientation, personal mastery, ethics, and values.
