Job Overview:

The Assistant Head Guide will support the Head Guide in overseeing, training, and monitoring all Field Guide functions, ensuring they adhere to FGASA standards and the MORE Guiding culture. This includes conducting game drives, interpretive bush walks, and guest safety orientations, as well as tracking, ecological lectures, and other bush events. The role involves leadership, guest interaction, and ensuring the safaris operate smoothly and effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

Safari Experience:

• Assume responsibility for the overall operation and administration of the Guides and Safari department in the absence of the Head Guide.
• Manage guest and staff relations, ensuring safety and excellence in safari experiences for individuals, families, and children.
• Oversee allocation of game drives, backup drives, and standby duties.
• Assist in obtaining and maintaining firearm licenses and ensuring safe weapon handling and proficiency.
• Supervise workshop functions and vehicle maintenance.
• Participate in managing lodge social media, contributing wildlife-related content.
• Assist in incident management (emergencies such as medical situations, fire, and flood).

Training, Development & Mentorship:

• Assist the Head Guide in mentoring, training, and developing the guiding team, including Field Guide College Students/Trainee Guides.
• Foster growth and skills development, maintaining high standards and qualifications.

General Service & Guest Care:

• Collect and communicate guest information prior to arrival and record guest preferences.
• Report guest complaints to management immediately, ensuring swift resolution.

Requirements – Qualifications and Skills:

• Qualifications: NQF 4 Trails Guide certification, ARH and Rifle Proficiency, First Aid Level 2, valid Driver’s License, and Pr-DP.
• Experience: Previous experience as a Senior Guide or Assistant Head Guide is essential.
• Skills:
  • Knowledge of planning, budgeting, and administration in guiding operations.
  • Familiarity with FGASA standards and MORE Guiding culture.
  • Strong guest focus philosophy, driving the MORE brand experience.
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) and leadership skills.
  • Proficient in time management, self-discipline, and problem-solving.
  • Strong attention to detail and hygiene principles.
  • Creative and proactive with initiative.
  • Adaptable and flexible, with a positive attitude and emotional control.
  • Ability to work under pressure and maintain leadership with patience and care.
