Purpose of Role:
To operate the CAT 6050 excavator effectively, adhering to Tharisa Minerals (TM) health and safety standards, for excavating and loading reef and waste as per daily plans. Responsible for transporting materials to processing areas and managing equipment operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Health and Safety:
- Conduct risk and safety inspections, reporting and documenting risks.
- Perform a prestart safety checklist on the CAT 6050, addressing any concerns with the control room and Foreman.
- Continuously assess risks during operations and collaborate to maintain a safe working environment.
- Promote a Zero Harm culture and adhere to TM policies and ethical standards.
Equipment Operations:
- Inspect and ensure the CAT 6050 is safe for operation daily.
- Manage load distribution to ensure stability and prevent overloading.
- Operate the CAT 6050 in various conditions, ensuring optimal loading and safe operation.
- Maintain the CAT 6050 by performing housekeeping, end-of-shift inspections, and scheduling necessary maintenance.
- Track fuel consumption and communicate with the Diesel Bowser to avoid operational downtime.
- Monitor equipment gauges and indicators, addressing any warnings promptly.
Daily Planning:
- Adhere to operational plans, prioritize ad hoc requests, and report delays to the supervisor for effective target monitoring.
Qualifications:
- Grade 12 (NQF4)
- Relevant license for CAT 6050
- Additional relevant certifications
Experience:
- 1-2 years in a similar role within the mining or heavy industry environment
- Code 10 Driver’s Licence
Inherent Requirements:
- Must be medically fit.
