Purpose of Role:

The Electrician is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical equipment and fixtures, ensuring compliance with MHSA and relevant Codes of Practice (COPs) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Execute critical daily maintenance tasks safely and efficiently.
  • Perform shutdown activities as per schedule and plan.
  • Enhance asset care management and optimization to meet customer needs.
  • Supervise and direct assistants and contractors in their area of responsibility.
  • Maintain good housekeeping standards and report any non-compliance to the engineering foreman.
  • Obtain job cards and permits, and conduct pre-work risk assessments.
  • Assemble, install, test, and maintain electrical or electronic systems and components using hand and power tools.
  • Diagnose and repair malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components.
  • Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers, and other components.
  • Inspect plant equipment and systems to identify hazards and ensure compliance with standards.
  • Advise management on equipment safety and operational risks.
  • Plan the layout and installation of equipment based on job specifications.

Qualifications:

  • Grade 12 and Minimum N2 Certificate.
  • Relevant Electrical Technical Qualifications (Red Seal Engineering Trade Certificate or SAQA Verified Trade Certificate).
  • Studying towards N6 National Diploma in Electrical Engineering is advantageous.
  • Valid MV Certificate.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of solid experience in a smelting environment as an Engineering Electrician.
  • Valid driving license (Code 08) and own transport.

Inherent Requirements:

  • Must be medically fit.
