Purpose of Role:

The Fitter is responsible for performing daily maintenance tasks, including the installation, assembly, maintenance, and repair of mechanical equipment and fixtures. This role ensures compliance with MHSA standards and focuses on maintaining the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of equipment at Tharisa Minerals.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assemble, install, test, and maintain mechanical equipment using power tools and gas-cutting equipment.
• Repair and maintain components such as liners, chutes, screens, conveyor belts, jaw crushers, and cone crushers.
• Diagnose system malfunctions using test equipment and hand tools; determine necessary repairs or adjustments.
• Complete job cards and pre-work risk assessments, ensuring all tasks follow safety standards.
• Collaborate with the engineering foreman to maintain health and safety standards and report any non-compliance.
• Conduct root cause analysis for breakdowns and malfunctioning equipment, taking corrective actions.
• Participate in equipment shutdowns according to established plans and procedures.
• Optimally use and request resources and assets needed for work duties.
• Contribute to asset care by applying safety protocols and ensuring the availability of critical spares.
• Communicate with internal and external stakeholders to achieve objectives.
• Provide advice to management on equipment hazards and risks, promoting safety and minimizing risks.
• Participate in safety inspections, employee training, and safety drills to enforce safety protocols.

Qualifications:

• Grade 12 (NQF 4).
• National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (advantageous).
• Relevant Fitting and Machining/Turning Technical Qualifications (Red Seal Engineering Trade Certificate or SAQA Verified Trade Certificate).

Experience:

• 3-5 years of relevant fitting experience.

Inherent Requirements:

• Must be medically fit.
