Job Title: Principal Engineer
Contract Duration: 2-Years Fixed Contract
Location: Prospecton, Durban, KwaZulu-Natal
Division: PEPD Unit Weld
Key Responsibilities:
- FET Cost Planning:
- Develop accurate cost estimates for new FET introductions, including material, labor, overheads, trials, and testing.
- Input cost estimates into product briefs for budget approval.
- FET Procurement:
- Establish equipment specifications and create a detailed scope of work for local and overseas procurement of equipment and tooling.
- Provide design input for FET and approve final design concepts in line with Toyota standards.
- Project Budget and Scheduling:
- Manage and control project budgets to avoid wasteful expenditure.
- Develop, manage, and control project schedules aligned with TSAM’s mission and objectives.
- Production Preparation:
- Conduct equipment buy-offs, both digital and physical, and oversee installation at TSAM.
- Implement process plans and plant layouts.
- FET Installation:
- Collaborate closely with all stakeholders to ensure safety and quality compliance during installation.
- Ensure smooth production handover after project completion.
- Safety & Quality Compliance:
- Adhere to SHE standards and regulations, ensuring zero injuries related to project activities.
- Ensure compliance with quality standards (SDS, Hinpyou, cpk, weld integrity, etc.).
Qualifications & Experience:
- Education: Relevant Degree/Diploma/BTech in Mechatronics, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering.
- Key Skills:
- Qualification and experience in tool jig and die making.
- Experience in CO2, plasma/TIG welding is an advantage.
- Project management expertise.
- Knowledge of jig, tooling, and fixture design and manufacturing.
- Familiarity with Toyota Production System (TPS) is beneficial.
- High computer literacy (Excel, Word, AutoCAD/Draftsight, Catia, Carott-3 simulation).
- Knowledge of PLC, Fanuc NC codes, automation, and robotics is advantageous.
- ISO 9000 & 14001 knowledge is essential.
- Understanding of RCI’s, ECI’s, SMS Equiry, and SMS-BR is advantageous.
