Overview:
Looking for high-paying jobs in the mining industry? BME is recruiting a General Assistant to work with explosives, providing critical support for detonation processes. This role is vital in assisting the blaster and truck operator with the preparation, execution, and post-detonation tasks at blasting sites. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring proper material handling, safety compliance, and equipment maintenance, making it a key role in mining operations.

Qualifications:

• Grade 12 with Mathematics
• Code 10 driver’s license (advantageous)
• Blasting Assistant Certificate
• Inhouse training and Entrance Medicals
• Magazine Master Ticket (desirable)

Experience:

• Previous experience in blasting or a mining environment
• Minimum 2 years of experience as a blasting assistant

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist in refilling the explosives truck with raw materials under the supervision of the truck operator.
• Conduct pre-use inspections and ensure the cleanliness of the vehicle.
• Perform housekeeping duties, including site and vehicle cleaning, and ensure personal cleanliness as per SHERQstandards.
• Measure drilled holes for proper depth and report any deviations.
• Load explosives into drilled holes following standard procedures.
• Ensure proper placement of detonators and secure detonator lines.
• Act as a Spotter for the truck operator during operations at the blasting area.
• Assist in calibration and mini-maintenance tasks like changing tyres, rotors, and stators on the truck.
• Support the truck operator with sampling, measuring, and product delivery down the hole.
• Maintain the safe condition of measuring and calibration equipment.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
• Strong numerical skills and attention to detail
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to write comprehensive reports
