Job Overview:
Nkomati Anthracite is seeking two skilled Roof Bolt Operators to join their underground operations team at Mangweni. The successful candidates will be responsible for ensuring roof stability in mining areas by installing roof bolts and anchors. Preference will be given to candidates from the Mawewe, Matsamo, and Lugedlane communities.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience:
- Education: Grade 12 or equivalent NQF Level 3 qualification.
- Certification: Valid Roof Bolt Operator certificate of competence and Competent B Certificate.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar role.
- Skills: Ability to read and write, good operating skills in confined spaces, and general knowledge of underground operations.
- Knowledge: Familiarity with the Mine Health and Safety Act.
- Physical Fitness: Must be medically fit and pass a medical examination as per Mine Health and Safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Machine Checks: Conduct pre-operational visual, physical, and operational checks of machines.
- Face Preparation: Install temporary supports, perform sounding and barring to prepare faces.
- Operate Machines: Safely and efficiently operate roof bolting machines from face to face.
- Ventilation Maintenance: Assist in maintaining ventilation and suspension of trailing cables and water hoses.
- Drilling: Drill bolt/long anchor holes into the roof as marked by a competent person.
- Install Roof Bolts: Install roof bolts or long anchors into holes as per recommendations, ensuring correct depth and positioning.
- Safety Checks: Test bolts for specified tension using torque wrenches and apply lock-out procedures as required.
- PPE Compliance: Ensure the correct personal protective equipment (PPE) is worn at all times.
- Additional Tasks: Perform any other legitimate duties required by supervisors.
