The program aims to develop skilled artisans in the fields of Tractor and Earthmoving Mechanics, providing a platform for growth, mentorship, and hands-on experience in a dynamic work environment.
Job Description:
AFGRI’s Apprenticeship Program is a three-year, in-service training program designed to qualify individuals as Artisans. The program includes mentorship by industry leaders, formal and informal training, and rotations through multidisciplinary teams. During the first six months, participants undergo a probationary period, allowing both the company and the apprentice to assess their fit without long-term commitment. Upon successful completion of probation, the apprentice will be bound by a contract with AFGRI and begin intensive training, which includes:
- Practical training phases at a designated training institute.
- Enrollment in N-subject courses through distance learning, with mandatory Saturday classes if required.
- Product training at the John Deere Training Facility in Boksburg and other supplier locations.
- Internal training conducted by AFGRI Specialists.
Contract Details:
- The apprenticeship is a three-year commitment with a potential maximum extension of four years.
- Apprentices must complete their training within the contract period; otherwise, the contract will expire.
- Apprentices are required to “work back” the time it took to qualify. Withdrawal from the program or failure to meet qualifications within the stipulated time will incur costs proportional to the time and phase of withdrawal.
Apprentice Duties:
- Training to become a Mechanic/Technician.
- Repair and maintenance of equipment.
- Stock control.
- Customer service.
- General tasks within the workplace.
Job Requirements:
- Education:
- Minimum of N2 qualification with subjects in Mathematics, Engineering Science, Diesel Trade Theory, and one of the following: Industrial Electronics, Engineering/Technical Drawing, or Motor Trade Theory.
- Alternatively, a Matric Certificate will be considered if the applicant has passed subjects such as Mathematics (not Literacy), Technical Mathematics (not Literacy), Physical Science, Technical Science, or Engineering Graphics and Design.
- Skills:
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Good communication and administrative skills.
- Computer literacy.

- Highly motivated with attention to detail.
- Team player with a goal-oriented approach.
- Deadline-driven.
General Principles:
