Job Title: Cashier

About the Job:
The Cashier is responsible for accurately handling all Point of Sale (POS) transactions and documentation, ensuring customer satisfaction, and maintaining cash security. The role demands strong administration skills, the ability to work under pressure, and the flexibility to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays.

Requirements:

  • Grade 12 or a minimum of 1 year of work-related experience.
  • Ability to communicate in English and the dominant language spoken in the geographical area.
  • Strong basic calculation skills.
  • Strong administration skills.
  • Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays.
  • Ability to work under pressure.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Cash Handling
    • Ensure that all cash (including floats and petty cash) allocated to you balances without shortages or overages.
    • Accurately identify and capture goods on the Point of Sale Terminal.
    • Record the correct payment type received from customers.
    • Maintain sufficient change at all times.
    • Ensure accurate pick-ups and cash-ups within set parameters.
    • Deposit all daily takings into the Drop Safe/vault.
    • Correctly process all transactions relating to other stores’ money, deliveries, and quotes.
  2. Administration
    • Sign, compile, and file all documentation related to the Cashier function.
  3. Ready for Business
    • Adhere to Ready for Business and Beyond my Control as per the CB Way.
  4. Customer Service
    • Provide fast, friendly, and efficient service to all customers when checking goods in and out.
    • Direct customers to the relevant person for further assistance.
    • Comply with the company’s dress code.
  5. Safety (OHSA) Requirements
    • Ensure compliance with safety requirements to protect customers and staff.
    • Report any discrepancies to the Store Manager.
  6. Security Awareness
    • Ensure adherence to system password control at till points.
    • Safely handle and transport cash to the cash office per company requirements.
  7. Drive for Results
    • Meet set targets and complete tasks accurately and on time.
    • Deliver quality standards as established by the company.
    • Follow through on commitments.
  8. Problem-Solving
    • Identify and resolve problems by seeking the root cause and using available information.
    • Escalate issues when necessary.
  9. Decision-Making
    • Make decisions within company policy guidelines and set timelines, considering the consequences.
    • Implement decisions in line with agreed processes and policies.

    • Plan tasks within the framework of department policies and procedures.

This role requires someone who is detail-oriented, customer-focused, and capable of working efficiently under pressure while maintaining accuracy in cash handling and administrative tasks.
