Purpose of the Job:
The Driver Training Academy (DTA) Instructor will be responsible for evaluating new and existing drivers to ensure their competency. This role involves full accountability for all assessments and the associated administration. The instructor will conduct various training and assessment sessions, including but not limited to forklift operation, crane operation, and conveying dangerous goods.


Key Responsibilities:

  1. Driver Evaluation:
    • Assess and evaluate new and existing drivers.
    • Conduct annual driver assessments and soft skills training.
    • Ensure all necessary documents are prepared and properly filled out before and after training.
    • Report on driver evaluations to the business.
    • Assist with emergency evaluations during peak times.
  2. Forklift Operation Training:
    • Conduct novice and refresher forklift training.
    • Ensure active participation during theoretical training sessions.
    • Conduct practical assessments using the forklift.
    • Ensure compliance with quality management systems in training documentation.
  3. Crane, Lift Trucks, and Dangerous Goods Training:
    • Conduct training and assessments for a range of operator training programs.
    • Prepare learners for assessments and ensure a conducive learning environment.
    • Ensure compliance with the quality management system during training.
    • Capture and update training records on the SHEQx system.
  4. Administration of Certificates and Licenses:
    • Verify the accuracy of employee details on certificates and licenses.
    • Communicate with the DTA Technical Manager regarding non-competent employees and suggest next steps.
    • Ensure that all certification documents are properly filed and accessible.
  5. Assessment and Moderation:
    • Conduct outcome-based assessments as per Assessor registration scope.
    • Compile assessment reports and ensure learner documentation is completed.
    • Prepare and conduct moderation plans, providing feedback to assessors.
    • Maintain updated moderator registration and comply with Quality Partners’ standards (TETA and QCTO).
  6. General Tasks:
    • Assist with TETA-related administration and audits.
    • Maintain cleanliness and organization in the work area.
    • Report damaged assets and adhere to PPE requirements.
    • Travel to various regions for training as required, ensuring vehicle inspections and logbook maintenance.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Education: Grade 12 (Matric)
  • Certifications:
    • Assessor Certificate
    • Moderator Certificate
    • Train the Trainer Certificate
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years in Facilitation and Assessment

Skills Required:

  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills
  • Strong driving skills
  • Ability to manage workload with minimal supervision
  • Deadline-driven with a proactive attitude
  • Willingness to assist with new projects

Knowledge:

  • Familiarity with the SAQA framework, Skills Development Act, and Driven Machinery regulations.
  • Experience with a blended learning approach.
  • Proficiency in verbal and written business English.

This position requires an individual with a strong background in driver training, assessment, and certification, who can work independently while maintaining high standards of accuracy and professionalism.
