Job Description:

The Cashier at the Makhado Depot will be responsible for the accurate processing and management of cash transactions, ensuring that all payments are processed against the correct driver as per receipt. The role includes reconciling daily cash balances, recording transactions, and securing cash deposits. The Cashier will play a key role in maintaining a secure and accurate cash management system within the depot.

Key Responsibilities:

• Cash Management:
  • Receive and recount cash from drivers.
  • Process payments against the correct driver receipts.
  • Ensure the daily cash balance is accurate and prepare bank deposits.
  • Record cash and cheque transactions in the cash-up summary.
  • Ensure the previous day’s takings are safely removed from the premises in a timely manner.
• Security:
  • Maintain a secure cash office by keeping the door locked at all times.
  • Ensure all cash is locked in the safe overnight.
  • Record seal numbers in the register.
• Accuracy & Compliance:
  • Keep cash shortages to a minimum.
  • Adhere to financial accounting principles and practices.
  • Perform all duties with a high level of accuracy and logical thinking.

Minimum Requirements:

• Education:
  • Grade 12 with a focus on Mathematics and Accounting.
• Experience:
  • 2-3 years’ experience as a cashier or in a bank, along with general office experience.
• Skills:
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Experience with Syspro is advantageous.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Analytical and logical thinking capabilities.
