Job Overview:

Grain Field Chickens, a subsidiary of VKB Agriculture (PTY) Ltd, is seeking a Warehouse and Distribution Manager to oversee logistics operations at our Reitz facility. This role is critical in managing the warehousing, stock management, and distribution processes to ensure operational efficiency, customer satisfaction, and compliance with food safety regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Logistics Operations Management:
  • Plan, manage, and evaluate logistics operations, including warehousing, stock control, and distribution.
  • Ensure timely and accurate delivery of stock, meeting client/customer satisfaction goals.
  • Supervise staff, ensuring adherence to PPE and job descriptions.
• Stock and Warehouse Management:
  • Coordinate the dispatch of goods and manage external breakbulk shipments.
  • Maintain and optimize warehouse layout for efficient storage and retrieval of stock.
  • Oversee stock pallet storage, picking, and dispatch processes to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
• SOP and Compliance Management:
  • Manage and enforce Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Work Instructions in line with SHERQ Department requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety, quality, and health & safety regulations.
  • Maintain accurate documentation for all stock movements, including receipts and dispatches.
• Customer Service and Communication:
  • Handle customer inquiries and complaints related to dispatch and delivery.
  • Liaise with internal staff, suppliers, logistics providers, and customers to ensure smooth operations.
  • Provide continuous client communication and feedback through regular reporting.
• Financial and Cost Management:
  • Monitor and analyze costs, implement cost-saving strategies, and manage departmental budgets.
  • Report on monthly financial accounts and prepare annual budgets.
  • Negotiate rates and contracts with logistics providers to optimize costs.
• Vehicle and Equipment Management:
  • Inspect trucks for damage, cleanliness, and maintenance, ensuring compliance with company standards.
  • Manage vehicle documentation, including licenses and service records.
  • Monitor vehicle movements and address deviations promptly.
• Housekeeping and Safety:
  • Ensure the dispatch area, freezer, and yard are clean and organized.
  • Conduct daily cleaning inspections and maintain safety standards in the warehouse.

Requirements:

• Education: Grade 12 / NQF 4 Equivalent; Logistics/SCM Diploma or Degree preferred.
• Experience: 5-8 years in logistics and warehousing, preferably within a poultry abattoir or FMCG environment.
• Skills:
  • Strong knowledge of food safety policies and ERP/Warehouse Management systems.
  • Profit and loss management experience, including budgeting.
  • Advanced computer literacy, particularly in Microsoft Office and Excel.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
