The role:
Manage and support the security services on the operation through guiding and advising management on intelligence and legal requirements and implementing effective security measures, including Mine Closure Operations (MCO) and Prospecting Rights (PR) sites. Responsible to provide group security policy development, reviews, and physical security risks & threat assessments. Provide leadership on Seriti Compliance Framework, establish compliance capability and reporting thus ensuring full compliance with organizational policies, standards & procedures and preventing breaches of any applicable legislation. Provide assurance about group wide security legal compliance to regulation including legislation and Act, e.g. (PSIRA, Firearms Control Act, Amended Criminal Procedures Act and Law of Evidence, etc.). The role is responsible to conduct security and public liability audits, as well as high-risk audits to ensure legal compliance and minimize the company’s risk or public liability – overseeing the management of protection services and the external security procured new service providers.
Responsibilities will include but not limited to:
- Ensure adequate protection of Seriti assets against theft and the influence of fraud through advising management on asset and fraud protection and proactively dealing with / managing any potential threat to company assets
- Remaining current with the legislative changes and the technology that impacts the Security services environment
- Provide investigative support to the business units
- Identify security and investigation needs by monitoring security indicators and trends
- Timeously reviewing of security vulnerabilities and closeout of actions

- Ensure the application of Seriti Code of Conduct (ethical conduct and internet protocols) by all employees
- Conduct security and public liability audits, as well as high risk audits ensuring adequate public liability cover for legal claims arising from death, illness or bodily injury to any person or damage to property belonging to someone else. This includes legal defense costs, damages resulting from wrongful arrest, associated assault and defamations claims
- Assess and negotiate new service provider contracts for protection services at the operations and oversee the management of the service delivery of the contracting firms through Service Level Agreements
- Effective People management, ensuring that roles are well defined and clarified and that competencies and learning paths are developed to human capacity and capability
- Build and maintain relationship with internal and external stakeholders, including the South African Police Services
- Compile, monitor and control the departmental budget so that spending is in line with Eskom Tied Mines Entity’s requirements through preparing and managing operational budgets for the department
Requirements:
- National Diploma/Degree in Security Risk Management and Forensic Services qualifications
- Registered with the Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority (PSIRA) Grade A
- Firearm competency
- Minimum of 5 years security / investigation related experience, preferably in the mining industry
- At least 2 years’ experience in a management / leadership role
- Experience in conducting security and public liability audits
- Experience in security management, criminal and white-collar crime investigations, security related risk management and prevention management
- Previous involvement in court cases and providing evidence in court
- Contract and contractor management experience
- Change Management experience
- Knowledge of relevant legislation including Criminal Procedures Act, Statute Law, Security Officers Act, Law of Evidence Mine Health and Safety Act & Labour Law
- Knowledge and understanding of Seriti Code of Conduct, Policies and procedures
- Knowledge and understanding of the Colliery Administration Procedure Manual (CAPM)
- Knowledge of protection services systems and procedures
- Knowledge of mining industry and applicable legislation
- Knowledge of best practices in investigation and surveillance techniques, as well as criminal investigation procedures and the law of evidence
- Compute literacy (MS Office)
- Valid driver’s license
- In possession or able to obtain a valid Certificate of Fitness
Advantageous:
- Criminal Justice Diploma
