The Fire Fighter role in Hout Bay provides a unique opportunity for highly skilled and dedicated individuals to join a professional emergency response team, ensuring the safety and protection of clients and the community through firefighting, rescue operations, and emergency medical response.


Position Overview

The Fire Fighter will be responsible for responding to fire incidents, conducting rescue operations, and providing basic medical care, while adhering to all safety protocols and operational procedures. This role includes fire prevention, training activities, equipment maintenance, and operational readiness to protect the lives and property of Fidelity clients.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate physical fitness, technical proficiency, and quick decision-making skills in high-pressure environments, maintaining professionalism and adherence to industry standards.


Minimum Requirements

Education and Training

  • Minimum Grade 12 / Matric

  • IFSAC Accredited Firefighter certification

  • NFPA 1001 Firefighter II certification

  • EMT and First Aid (Levels 1–3) or Basic Ambulance Attendant certification

Work Experience

  • Minimum 2–3 years’ experience as a firefighter

  • Experience in Hazmat operations and firefighting systems

  • Advanced driving experience advantageous

Licensing and Other Requirements

  • Valid Code C1 driver’s license with PrDP

  • Medically and physically fit

  • Clear criminal record

  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written

  • Excellent administration, interpersonal, and customer liaison skills

  • Sound knowledge of fire prevention, firefighting systems, and Hazmat protocols

  • Ability to respond effectively under high-pressure emergency situations

Key Performance Areas

  • Respond to fire, rescue, and emergency incidents promptly and efficiently

  • Provide basic medical care and life-saving assistance as required

  • Operate, maintain, and inspect firefighting equipment and vehicles

  • Conduct training drills, simulation exercises, and fire safety education

  • Perform fire prevention inspections and advise on corrective measures

  • Maintain daily occurrence logs and shift-related administrative records

  • Assist in fire and safety training programs for employees

  • Ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Safety Act and Fidelity policies

  • Supervise and mentor junior personnel under the guidance of senior officers

  • Participate in departmental health and safety meetings and operational planning


Technical Knowledge and Competencies

  • Proficient in firefighting techniques, Hazmat operations, and emergency response protocols

  • Knowledge of fire suppression systems and rescue equipment

  • Ability to operate heavy and specialized vehicles at emergency scenes

  • Skilled in incident management, risk assessment, and emergency planning

  • Understanding of security industry standards and regulatory compliance
