Position Overview
The Boiler Operator will be based at the Siqalo Foods Division in Boksburg and is responsible for operating, monitoring, and maintaining high-pressure boilers, including supervision over the ash handling system. This role ensures all boiler operations adhere to relevant codes of practice, safety standards, and operational procedures, supporting the Boiler House Foreman in delivering safe and efficient steam generation.

Key Responsibilities
-
Operate, monitor, and control high-pressure (HP) and low-pressure (LP) steam boilers.

Perform hot and cold start-ups and shutdowns of boilers 1–5.

Inspect boilers offline and check CO2 bottles.
-
Control TDS levels of boilers online and calibrate monitoring systems.
-
Carry out emergency procedures including boiler dry-run, electrical power failure, low water levels, and municipal water supply failures.

Maintain combustion on coal, husk, and gas boilers.
-
Operate and inspect softener plants and manage coal/husk bunkers, ash pits, and silos.

Monitor ESP dust system, checking heat levels, leaks, and ensuring proper operation of pokers.

Supervise ash handlers’ tasks and issue/close safety permits.

Update boiler house logs (digital and manual).

Monitor control panels and maintain general housekeeping in the boiler area.

Troubleshoot boiler house systems and implement foreman instructions.
-
Execute shift handover, WCM soot blowing, sight glass blow-down, and working at heights procedures.
Minimum Requirements
-
Matric / Grade 12 certificate.
-
Boiler Attendance Course completed.
-
2–5 years’ experience operating high-pressure boilers and working with steam systems.

Knowledge of ESP, deaerators, water softeners, and stoking principles.

Familiarity with high-pressure vessels and safety regulations.

Proficient in using correct PPE and adherence to safety procedures.

Ability to work shift patterns, including weekends.
