Position Overview
The Security Superintendent is responsible for leading a holistic and proactive risk management approach across the company’s mining operations. This role focuses on the prevention, protection, mitigation, and response to potential security and risk-related incidents, ensuring business continuity and compliance with all legal and corporate governance standards.
The successful candidate will oversee security systems, service providers, compliance audits, and risk mitigation programs, ensuring that Samancor Chrome maintains a resilient, efficient, and ethical security framework across its operations.
Key Responsibilities
Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality (SHEQ)

Identify, assess, and manage baseline risk exposures related to business operations, personnel, and assets.

Apply mitigation strategies and implement control measures for residual risks.

Manage compliance using the SHEQ Toolbox and the Information Management System (IMS).

Oversee incident management, security function assessments, and risk reporting.

Conduct regular quality control and risk assessment activities to uphold security standards.
People Management

Lead the Security Department to ensure a high-performance culture.

Manage staff performance, discipline, and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
-
Maintain an ethical, inclusive, and compliant approach to service delivery.

Foster employee development through coaching, mentoring, and training.
-
Embed quality systems and ensure the security value chain aligns with company objectives.
Customer and Stakeholder Relations

Ensure customer satisfaction across all Samancor Chrome operations.

Resolve stakeholder queries and complaints efficiently.

Maintain relationships with key operational partners, suppliers, and regulatory bodies.

Ensure cost-effective, compliant, and reliable security services are delivered consistently.
Business Processes and Compliance

Manage data through IMS and DataWalk, analysing trends and identifying non-conformances.

Conduct security audits and ensure corrective actions are implemented.

Manage incident investigations, daily reporting, and compliance documentation.

Oversee weekly compliance meetings with service provider management.

Compile and present monthly management and incident reports to the Chief of Security.

Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the security function.

Identify opportunities to reduce costs, improve efficiencies, and enhance response mechanisms.

Promote operational excellence through training, system integration, and performance monitoring.

Prepare and manage departmental budgets effectively.

Ensure adherence to corporate governance and financial control policies.

Protect company assets and personnel from potential threats or losses.

Monitor and prevent criminal activity to minimise operational and financial risks.
Minimum Requirements
-
Degree or Diploma in Security Management (essential)

Minimum 5 years of Mining Security experience

Minimum 3 years of managerial experience in a similar environment (preferred)

PSIRA Grade A Certification (essential)
-
ASIS PSP (Physical Security Professional) Certification will be an advantage
Knowledge and Skills

Strong understanding of Holistic Security Management principles

Knowledge of contingency planning, emergency response, and risk legislation in mining

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Samancor Systems (IMS, SAP, COUPA, LMS, MES)

Experience with DataWalk and incident reporting systems
