The Dispensary Support role at Mondeor provides structured learning and hands-on experience for candidates pursuing the Learner Basic Pharmacist Assistant course, allowing them to gain practical exposure in retail pharmacy operations. Staff in this role are employed on a fixed-term contract until registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC), with permanent employment opportunities available once qualification is achieved.


Position Overview

The Dispensary Support position is designed to provide practical training and learning in pharmacy operations. Candidates will gain knowledge in dispensing procedures, stock control, patient service, and compliance with SAPC regulations, preparing them for permanent roles as Basic Pharmacist Assistants.


Minimum Requirements

Essential:

  • Grade 12 / Matric certificate or Senior Certificate with Pure Mathematics (50%) and Life Science or Physical Science with an average of 50% or higher.

  • Completion of a proficiency test allowing application for registration with SAPC as a Learner Basic Pharmacist Assistant.

Advantageous:

  • Retail/FMCG experience, preferably Dis-Chem front shop experience.

  • Knowledge of drug, family planning, and complementary medicine.

  • Computer literacy, numerical skills, and familiarity with Unisolv, SAP, and E-Scripting.

  • Proficiency in a third additional language.


Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the sale of Schedule 1 medicines or scheduled substances under pharmacist supervision.

  • Support compounding, manipulation, or preparation of non-sterile medicines according to approved formulas and SOPs.

  • Assist with unpacking, merchandising, and cleaning dispensary and OTC shelves.

  • Learn to interpret prescriptions accurately and operate within SAPC legal requirements.

  • Ensure medication picking, packing, labelling, and checking are completed and verified by a pharmacist.

  • Support stock control, including cleanliness, shelf organisation, expiry tracking, and reporting low or out-of-stock items.

  • Follow up with patients regarding script tracking reports and appointments.

  • Assist with call centre scripts and patient service telephone queries.

  • Provide health guidance and information to patients.

  • Support scheme authorization for chronic, HIV/AIDS, and oncology medications.

  • Receive and process dispensary stock according to company SOPs.
