Position Overview
The Dispensary Support role provides a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a professional pharmacy environment. Successful candidates will be employed on a fixed-term contract while completing the Learner Basic Pharmacist Assistant Course, which is accredited by the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC).
Upon successful completion of the training and registration with SAPC, permanent employment as a Basic Pharmacist Assistant may be offered.
Minimum Requirements
Essential Qualifications and Skills:

Grade 12 / Senior Certificate with:

Pure Mathematics (minimum 50%)

Life Science and/or Physical Science (minimum 50%)

Must have passed a proficiency test qualifying for SAPC learner basic assistant registration.

South African Citizen.

Clear criminal and credit record.
Advantageous:
-
Previous experience in retail or FMCG.
-
Exposure to Dis-Chem front shop operations.
-
Familiarity with Unisolv, SAP, or E-Scripting.
-
Basic understanding of family planning and complementary medicine.
Key Responsibilities
-
Assist with the sale of Schedule 1 medicines and substances under the supervision of a pharmacist.
-
Help with the compounding, manipulation, and preparation of non-sterile medicines according to approved Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Support the dispensary manager in unpacking and merchandising pharmaceutical stock.
-
Maintain cleanliness and order in the dispensary and OTC shelves.
-
Learn to interpret prescriptions accurately and understand legal pharmaceutical requirements.

Assist in picking, packing, labelling, and checking medications for accuracy.
-
Help control stock levels, monitor expiry dates, and report shortages.

Follow up with patients regarding script tracking and medication collection.

Provide assistance in authorizing chronic, HIV, AIDS, and oncology medication schemes.

Support the dispensary call centre with patient inquiries.

Ensure compliance with Dis-Chem’s OHS, hygiene, and operational standards.
