Role Overview

The Casual Frontshop Assistant is responsible for ensuring product availability, proper merchandising, and excellent customer service at point of sale. This role involves handling stock, managing cash transactions, assisting customers, and maintaining the store according to Dis-Chem standards and SOPs.

Key Responsibilities

Ensure shelves are fully stocked, organized, and products are correctly displayed.
Monitor product expiry dates and manage stock rotation.
Restock merchandise to maintain maximum sales and follow up on out-of-stock items.
Ensure storerooms are clean, tidy, and organized.
Assist with back shopping, stock counting, and general stocktaking.
Handle incoming stock, unpack, and prepare for storage or display.
Manage customer transactions – cash, card, vouchers, coupons, and loyalty programs.
Process merchandise exchanges and returns according to company policy.
Ensure cash handling accuracy and follow drop safe procedures.
Report damaged, expired, or suspicious stock and behaviour to management.
Assist with training new or existing team members.
Maintain compliance with Dis-Chem Policies, SOPs, Health & Safety regulations, and uniform standards.
Provide friendly, helpful, and professional service to all customers.

Minimum Requirements

Grade 12 / Matric or Senior Certificate
0 – 6 months retail experience

Advantageous:

1 year retail experience
Certification in Retail Business Management

Skills and Competencies

Knowledge of retail operations and administration
Ability to solve problems and escalate issues appropriately
Basic arithmetic skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division)
Strong verbal communication and customer service skills
Attention to detail, reliability, and personal accountability
Basic computer literacy (Word, Excel, Outlook) and numerical skills (advantageous)

Special Conditions of Employment

Willing and able to work retail hours
South African citizen
MIE, clear criminal record, and clear credit rating
Driver’s license and reliable transport
