The Onrus Manor facility, located in Hermanus, is looking for a dedicated Carer on a temporary contract to cover maternity leave. This role is suited to compassionate individuals based in or near Hermanus who have a genuine passion for supporting the elderly and patients requiring long-term care.

Role Overview

As a Carer, you will play a vital role in ensuring the comfort, dignity, and well-being of residents. This includes supporting frail, dementia, and palliative care patients by providing daily assistance, companionship, and emotional support. You will be expected to follow personalised care plans, maintain professional standards, and foster a safe and therapeutic environment.

Key Responsibilities

Assist residents with daily living activities such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and feeding.
Provide companionship and emotional support, accompanying residents on walks, to meals, and activities.
Accurately record all interactions and care updates on the Healthware electronic system via the company cellphone.
Promptly report changes in residents’ health conditions to senior staff.
Ensure compliance with infection control and health and safety protocols.
Participate in night-shift camera watch duties on a rotational basis to monitor resident safety.

Education and Qualifications

Acknowledged Carer training from a reputable organisation is advantageous.
SETA accreditation will be considered an advantage.

Experience and Knowledge

Proven experience as a Carer or in a similar healthcare environment.
Knowledge of dementia care, palliative care, and rehabilitative care practices.

Skills and Attributes

Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
Physically fit with the stamina required for caregiving.
Patient, adaptable, and responsible.
Professional etiquette and adherence to healthcare protocols.

Working Hours and Compensation

Night shift position: 19h00 – 07h00.
16.25 shifts per month.
Competitive basic salary plus payment for Sundays, public holidays, and additional shifts worked.
