Role Overview
The General Worker – Kimberley position is a full-time permanent opportunity for someone who enjoys hands-on agricultural work and contributing to the research and seed production process.
This role involves assisting with all stages of plant development, from seed preparation and seedling management to transplanting, trellising, greenhouse maintenance, and field operations. It is an essential support role that ensures the success of crop trials, plant health, and overall productivity in the seed research facility.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for:

Seed Handling & Preparation
-
Counting and packaging seeds.
-
Soaking, washing, and drying seedling trays.
-
Preparing seedling mix for tray and pot filling.
-

Seedling & Plant Care
-
Filling seedling trays and pots with soil mix.
-
Sowing seeds according to sowing lists.
-
Moving seedling trays from germination rooms to seedling houses after 72 hours of sowing.

Watering seedlings manually when required.
-
Transplanting seedlings into greenhouses and fields.
-

Greenhouse & Field Operations
-
Moving filled pots into greenhouses and arranging them properly.
-
Connecting drippers to pots to ensure proper irrigation.

Preparing planting holes in the field and transplanting seedlings.

Setting up trellising ropes and connecting them to support plant growth.

Assisting with crop management tasks such as emasculation, crossing, harvesting, and seed processing when required.

General Support

Maintaining cleanliness of work areas including greenhouses.

Supporting trial harvests and research-related activities.

Entry Requirements
To be considered for this role, applicants must have:

Education: A National Senior Certificate (Grade 12) (Essential).

Ability to follow instructions carefully.

Practical skills and willingness to perform manual labour.

Attention to detail when handling seeds and seedlings.
