Role Overview
The Retail Controller plays a crucial role in managing the financial operations of retail stores, ensuring compliance with company policies, and driving profitability. The successful candidate will be responsible for reconciling financial data, handling queries, monitoring performance, and providing accurate reporting.
This role is best suited to someone with a strong background in bookkeeping, reconciliations, and retail accounting processes. The Retail Controller will also serve as a key link between store operations, finance teams, and senior management, ensuring financial accuracy across all transactions and promoting operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Data Capturing and Reconciliation

Perform daily reconciliations of point-of-sale income against bank account receipts and CIT reports.

Capture all cashbook receipts accurately and maintain up-to-date records.

Complete store account reconciliations to ensure financial accuracy.

Identify discrepancies and investigate variances to maintain compliance and accuracy.
Retail Control
-
Ensure accurate reconciliation of retail sales and bank deposits for all stores.

Resolve queries from physical stores and e-commerce platforms efficiently.

Process customer refunds in a timely and professional manner.

Liaise with CIT companies on deposit-related issues to ensure smooth financial operations.

Follow up with banking institutions on refunds or discrepancies.
General Duties

Address and resolve store queries related to financial operations.

Communicate effectively with the Financial Manager and Financial Controller regarding issues and updates.

Maintain accurate records through organized filing and documentation.

Provide general office administration support to ensure smooth financial reporting.

Ensure that financial capturing, reconciliation, and communication processes are completed accurately and on time.
Qualifications and Experience
To be considered for this role, applicants must meet the following requirements:

Certificate or Diploma in Bookkeeping or Finance.

Minimum of 2 years’ experience in creditors and debtors reconciliations.

Proven accounting experience with a solid understanding of retail financial operations.

Prior experience with point-of-sale reconciliations will be an advantage.

Strong knowledge of general ledger accounting and allocations.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word and Excel.

Minimum 2 years’ experience on a well-known accounting package; experience with SAP Business One will be highly advantageous.
