Role Overview

The Assistant Store Manager will play a vital role in supporting the Store Manager to oversee daily operations at GALXBOY’s Polokwane store. This position requires a leader who is hands-on, detail-oriented, and able to inspire a sales team to deliver exceptional service and meet sales goals.

You will manage staff, drive customer engagement, implement visual merchandising standards, and ensure smooth day-to-day operations of the store. From inventory control to cash management, the Assistant Store Manager will be a trusted support to the Store Manager while taking initiative to lead when required.

Key Responsibilities

Customer Service Leadership

  • Lead the sales team by example and ensure sales targets for turnover, unit per transaction (UPT), and average transaction value (ATV) are consistently achieved.
  • Maintain strong floor presence and supervise daily sales operations.
  • Train, motivate, and guide staff to deliver a high standard of customer service.
  • Handle escalated customer queries and complaints professionally, ensuring resolution and customer retention.
  • Allocate team members according to the store zoning guide for maximum efficiency.

Visual Merchandising

  • Execute merchandising strategies according to GALXBOY brand guidelines.
  • Submit weekly visual merchandising (VM) photos to the head office.
  • Conduct regular VM walks to check that all products are tagged, priced, steamed, and displayed correctly.
  • Continuously train staff on store merchandising standards.

Inventory Control

  • Process deliveries on the same day, ensuring stock is checked against invoices, tagged, priced, steamed, and recorded in the system.
  • Keep the stockroom neat, well-organised, and compliant with company standards.
  • Conduct weekly and monthly stock counts with accurate reporting.
  • Implement and monitor risk control measures to minimise stock losses.

Supervising Daily Operations

  • Oversee time and attendance and manage staff schedules.
  • Implement store opening and closing procedures.
  • Supervise cash-ups, cash drops, and ensure proper use of point-of-sale (POS) systems.
  • Manage refunds and exchanges according to company policy and escalate when necessary.
  • Maintain high housekeeping standards to keep the store clean, safe, and visually appealing.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Matric certificate (Grade 12) is compulsory.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in business, retail management, or a related field is an advantage.
  • 1–2 years of retail management experience in a supervisory or assistant manager role.
  • Proven ability to lead and motivate a sales team in a fast-paced retail environment.
  • Computer literate with good knowledge of POS systems.
  • Strong organisational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Passionate about sales and fashion with a customer-first mindset.
