About the Role

The Stock Manager will be responsible for ensuring stock accuracy, availability, and optimal flow throughout the supply chain. This role is critical in implementing efficient processes, minimising variances, reducing costs, and managing aged or slow-moving stock. You will also lead a high-performing stock team, drive operational excellence, and support business objectives with precise reporting and data-driven decision-making.


Key Responsibilities

Inventory Management

  • Develop and implement inventory control strategies aligned with company objectives.
  • Monitor stock levels and turnover rates, ensuring the right balance between availability and cost efficiency.
  • Maintain an accurate stock file to support on-time and in-full order delivery.
  • Ensure invoice corrections are processed promptly to support excellent customer service.

Stock Accuracy and Reconciliation

  • Oversee and reconcile stock movements across warehouses, retail outlets, and distribution centres.
  • Investigate and resolve stock discrepancies, implementing corrective actions to maintain inventory integrity.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure accurate invoicing, receipts, transfers, and reporting.

Dead, Slow-Moving & Aged Stock Management

  • Identify and manage aged or obsolete stock.
  • Work with relevant teams to determine actions such as discounting, repurposing, or disposal.

Operational Excellence

  • Conduct regular stock counts and audits to ensure compliance.
  • Implement best practices for inventory handling, including safety and security protocols.
  • Reconcile Chep pallet transactions and maintain visual performance management standards.

Team Leadership

  • Lead, train, and mentor the stock management team, fostering accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Conduct daily team meetings, performance reviews, and succession planning.
  • Promote a safe, compliant, and collaborative working environment.

Systems and Process Improvement

  • Analyse data to identify inefficiencies and implement process improvements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align inventory practices.

Reporting and Analysis

  • Prepare and deliver reports on stock performance, KPIs, and trends to senior management.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent qualification.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years’ experience in a similar stock control role, preferably in FMCG retail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, in English.
  • High attention to detail with exceptional organisational skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and competitive environment.
