Role Overview
The Handyman is a key operational role within Empact’s Integrated Facilities Management Solutions team in Bloemfontein. This contract role involves performing a wide range of maintenance and repair tasks—including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, and HVAC—across client sites. The ideal candidate is a proactive maintenance specialist capable of ensuring functionality, safety, and high standards in building upkeep.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform general maintenance, repairs, and minor renovations (plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, HVAC).
- Diagnose and troubleshoot system and facility faults and complete work orders on time.
- Conduct routine inspections to identify safety concerns or maintenance needs.
- Install, repair, and maintain fixtures, fittings, and equipment.
- Collaborate with team members, supervisors, and external service providers as required.
- Respond swiftly to maintenance requests, including after-hours and emergency callouts.
- Maintain accurate logs of all maintenance work and equipment inventory.
- Support preventive maintenance implementation and scheduling.
- Ensure strict adherence to health and safety regulations and company standards at all times.
Candidate Profile
Education & Experience
- Matric (Grade 12) or equivalent required.
- 2 to 3 years’ proven experience in a general maintenance or handyman role.
- Experience across multiple trades, including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, HVAC, and painting.
Technical Competencies
- Skilled use of tools, equipment, and maintenance materials.
- Strong troubleshooting and fault-finding ability.
- Familiarity with health and safety standards and site compliance.
Personal Qualities
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organization and time management with job prioritization skills.
- Ability to work independently under pressure and in fast-paced environments.
- Physically fit and comfortable with manual labor, lifting, climbing, and confined space work.
