ROLE OVERVIEW

The Firefighter will be responsible for managing all fire-related emergencies, providing medical care, participating in rescue operations, and conducting fire prevention training and inspections. The position plays a critical role in protecting lives, property, and infrastructure across client locations served by the Fidelity Group.

This demanding but rewarding role requires physical fitness, specialized training, and a commitment to safety, teamwork, and fast decision-making during emergencies.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Respond to fire, rescue, and emergency incidents swiftly and efficiently

  • Perform emergency rescue operations, including extraction and resuscitation

  • Handle incidents involving hazardous substances (Hazmat)

  • Provide emergency first aid care at scenes of accidents and fires

  • Operate firefighting vehicles, hoses, extinguishers, ladders, pumps, and other rescue equipment

  • Conduct safety inspections, risk assessments, and fire prevention campaigns

  • Participate in physical training, simulation drills, and fitness programs

  • Maintain firefighting equipment and apparatus, ensuring constant operational readiness

  • Complete incident reports, shift logs, and documentation as required by departmental policies

  • Promote occupational health and safety by adhering to protocols, inspections, and use of protective gear

  • Drive and operate fire trucks and specialized equipment as directed

  • Provide training, fire safety awareness, and education to employees or clients where needed

  • Act as part of the Departmental Health and Safety Committee

  • Support supervisory duties, including administrative reporting, inspections, and shift oversight

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • Matric / Grade 12

  • IFSAC-accredited NFPA 1001 Firefighter II Certification (essential)

  • 2 – 3 years’ experience in active fire response operations

  • Valid C1 Driver’s Licence with PrDP

  • Advanced driving experience will be an advantage

  • Hazmat experience and knowledge required

  • First Aid Level 1, 2, and 3 certifications

  • EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) certification preferred

  • Physically and medically fit

  • Strong understanding of fire chemistry, classes of fire, and fire suppression systems

  • Clean criminal record

  • Ability to remain calm and take initiative in life-threatening situations

  • Deep understanding of Hazmat protocols and emergency response

  • Sound knowledge of the security industry code of conduct
