About the Road Accident Fund (RAF)
The Road Accident Fund (RAF) plays a critical role in South Africa by providing appropriate cover to all road users within the country. The organisation is dedicated to rehabilitating and compensating individuals who have been injured as a result of motor vehicle accidents in a timely, caring, and efficient manner. Through its various operations, RAF also actively promotes the safe use of South African roads to reduce accident-related injuries and fatalities.

Role Purpose
The Consultant: Verification and Validation is responsible for verifying and validating registered claims to ensure they meet the requirements of the RAF Act, regulations, and applicable case law. The role is essential in safeguarding the integrity of the claims process, minimising fraudulent activities, and ensuring that only valid claims are processed.
This is a 12-month fixed-term contract, with five (5) positions available within the Johannesburg office.
Key Performance Areas
Verification and Validation

Apply sound legal knowledge of the RAF Act, regulations, and relevant case law to validate claims

Conduct in-depth searches for applicable case law during the verification process

Determine the need for injured parties to be called in for questioning as per the RAF Act
-
Apply RAF procedures to verify the legitimacy of claims
-
Assess and manage duplicate claims to prevent unnecessary processing
-
Examine and apply prescription rules at both claim and product levels
-
Verify claimant data and information with relevant stakeholders

Assess the validity of death benefit claims to determine rightful beneficiaries
Quality Assurance

Maintain and update reporting standards in line with standard operating procedures

Ensure high-quality verification and validation processes
-
Implement procedures for unusual occurrences to address irregularities
Administrative Support

Document and acknowledge pre-assessed claims
-
Respond to correspondence and queries efficiently
-
Produce accurate reports, briefing documents, letters, and presentations

Assist with typing and editing technical documents, briefs, and memos
Stakeholder Management

Build and maintain positive relationships with all stakeholders
-
Provide consistent follow-ups and updates on claim statuses
-
Respond to stakeholder queries within predefined turnaround times
Reporting

Track and report progress against set targets and objectives

Identify and report on emerging risks within the verification process
-
Provide ad hoc reports to support process improvements
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree or Advanced Diploma in a relevant field
Experience
-
Minimum of 3 years’ relevant experience in a claims environment
Technical and Behavioural Competencies

Ability to differentiate between various RAF products

Strong knowledge of the Motor Vehicle Act

Understanding of Motor Vehicle Accident legislation and its application
