Role Overview
Premier FMCG is seeking an experienced and qualified Maintenance Manager to oversee all installations, repairs, and upkeep of machinery, facilities, and operational infrastructure at its Durban Mill. This position requires a hands-on, technically skilled leader with a proven track record in maintenance management, food safety, and health and safety standards.
The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining operational excellence, improving plant efficiency, ensuring compliance with legal and safety regulations, and driving high performance within the maintenance department.
Key Responsibilities
Serve as the designated GMR 2.7 compliance representative on site
Manage assets and oversee the planned preventative maintenance programme
Provide technical support to the technical and operational teams
Oversee maintenance of automated packing machines and systems, including Fawema equipment
Assist with project execution and Capex management to enhance mill efficiency
Control maintenance department costs and manage the departmental budget
Ensure full compliance with Health and Safety (OHSACT) and Food Safety (FSSC 22000) requirements
Lead, manage, and develop maintenance department staff, including recruitment, performance management, and training
Ensure adequate stock levels for maintenance operations
Coordinate and assign daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance schedules
Establish job priorities and timeframes for the maintenance team
Oversee the installation and repair of electrical and mechanical equipment
Monitor job completion and ensure work meets standards and instructions
Train employees on equipment use, maintenance procedures, and safety standards
Schedule all maintenance activities, including contractor work, using maintenance management systems such as C-Works, Pragma, or SAP
Make capital equipment recommendations and develop technical specifications
Maintain accurate records of maintenance schedules, installations, structural repairs, and work orders
Ensure effective implementation of INVOCOM and continuous improvement initiatives
Qualification Requirements
Matric (Grade 12)
N6 Electrical qualification
Experience Requirements
Minimum 10 years’ experience in a technical managerial role within an FMCG milling environment
Minimum 10 years’ experience in a milling environment
Minimum 6 to 10 years’ proven experience as GMR 2.7 with advanced OHSACT certification
Minimum 5 years’ experience with FSSC 22000 Food Safety standards
Minimum 6 to 10 years’ health and safety management experience
Minimum 6 to 10 years’ experience in planned preventative maintenance systems such as C-Works, Pragma, or SAP
Minimum 5 to 10 years’ HR and IR process management experience
Minimum 6 to 10 years’ experience working with blowers, boilers, and compressors
Experience with Scada and Variable Speed Drives (VSD)
Minimum 5 to 10 years’ extensive knowledge and experience with Fawema packing machinery
