Role Overview
Premier FMCG is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Foreman Maintenance to oversee the optimal operation of infrastructure and equipment at its Cape Town bakery site. The successful candidate will be responsible for technical support, asset management, maintenance planning, and ensuring all systems operate efficiently and safely. This role requires a trade-qualified artisan with a strong background in maintenance within the bakery or FMCG industry.
Key Responsibilities
Provide technical support and troubleshoot breakdowns to ensure minimal downtime
Manage and implement plant upgrades and energy management initiatives
Plan and execute asset management and maintenance schedules to ensure equipment reliability
Monitor and control maintenance costs, adhering to set budgets
Oversee performance management, staff development, and industrial relations within the maintenance team
Coordinate weekly maintenance activities and breakdown responses
Utilize maintenance management systems to issue and manage job cards effectively
Ensure effective asset and stock management and control of maintenance-related inventory
Prepare for and participate in audits including safety, food safety, and stock control compliance
Qualification Requirements
Matric (Grade 12)
Relevant Trade Qualification
Registered Artisan with the Department of Labour (Red Seal)
Experience Requirements
5 to 7 years’ experience in a relevant trade such as Electrician or Millwright within a bakery or FMCG environment
Other Requirements
Ability to work in a highly pressurised environment
Willingness to work weekends, public holidays, and 24/7 standby as required
Physical strength to work with heavy products and equipment
Flexibility to work long hours when necessary
Key Competencies
In-depth knowledge of FMCG industry operations
Understanding of food safety protocols
Experience working with PLC and SCADA systems
Commitment to safe working practices
Strong knowledge of in-house maintenance systems
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
Coaching and people development abilities
Operational management expertise
Proven track record in innovation and continuous improvement
Comprehensive understanding of core business processes and engineering principles
