Role Overview
We are looking for an experienced and motivated Assistant Retail Store Manager to lead, support, and empower our team at the Econo Foods Retail Store in Welkom, Free State. This role requires an individual with a proven track record in retail operations, stock management, team leadership, and customer service excellence.
The successful candidate will play a crucial role in driving sales, reducing stock losses, maintaining world-class store standards, and contributing to the store’s overall success.

Key Responsibilities

Drive and promote sales by ensuring world-class customer service

Maintain exceptional store standards through effective merchandising and stock management

Oversee receiving of stock, conducting stock counts, managing expiry dates, and stock conditions

Lead recruitment, training, coaching, and performance management of a high-performing team

Implement cash management procedures including float preparation, daily banking, and cashier support

Analyse store sales data to identify growth opportunities and areas for improvement

Ensure compliance with health, hygiene, and food safety standards

Supervise store operations including opening, closing, and security procedures

Foster positive relationships with customers, suppliers, and stakeholders
Qualifications and Experience Required

Matric (Grade 12) is essential; a tertiary qualification is advantageous

Minimum 3-5 years’ experience as a Retail Store Manager or Assistant Manager, preferably within FMCG
-
Proven track record of achieving sales targets and delivering exceptional customer service

Solid understanding of retail operations, stock control, and store procedures

Valid driver’s license; own vehicle preferred

Strong leadership and team management skills

Excellent English communication skills, both verbal and written

Competency in Microsoft Office

High attention to detail and accuracy
