ABOUT THE EKURHULENI METROPOLITAN POLICE DEPARTMENT (EMPD)

The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department plays a crucial role in ensuring law enforcement, public safety, and crime prevention within the City of Ekurhuleni. As part of a dynamic and progressive municipality, the EMPD is committed to creating safe, secure, and resilient communities by deploying highly trained personnel across the region.

The department is currently seeking committed and qualified individuals to serve as Security Guards, responsible for securing municipal premises, assets, and personnel to maintain a safe and protected environment for employees and residents.

ROLE OVERVIEW

The City of Ekurhuleni invites suitably qualified candidates to apply for the position of Security Guard: Guarding Services within the EMPD. The successful applicant will be responsible for securing municipal facilities, controlling access, monitoring security systems, and responding to emergencies.

This role is ideal for individuals with strong security training, high levels of integrity, and a passion for protecting people and property. The position contributes to the overall safety and security of municipal operations and public spaces.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Grade 12 / Matric Certificate or equivalent qualification

• Completed Basic Security Course as per PSIRA requirements

• Registered as a Security Officer with PSIRA, minimum Grade C (Grade A is an added advantage)

• No criminal record or illicit activity recorded

• Minimum of 1 year relevant experience in the security industry

• Strong understanding of security protocols, access control, and emergency response procedures

• Ability to monitor CCTV systems and other security equipment

• Good communication and observational skills

• Physically fit and able to perform security duties effectively

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

• Secure municipal premises, assets, and personnel to ensure a safe and secure environment

• Perform access control functions to regulate entry and exit points

• Provide a visible security presence to deter unauthorised access and ensure safety compliance

• Execute administrative functions, including incident reporting, shift handovers, and maintaining security logs

• Monitor and operate CCTV cameras and other surveillance equipment to prevent crime, theft, and ensure public safety

• Respond to security breaches and assist during emergency situations, maintaining order and safety

• Conduct routine inspections and patrols to identify potential risks or breaches

• Liaise with municipal staff, law enforcement, and emergency services when required

• Uphold high standards of professionalism, integrity, and discipline at all times
