Adendorff Machinery Mart’s Silverlakes branch in Pretoria is seeking a Retail Shop Assistant to join our dynamic sales team. As a Retail Shop Assistant, you are the first point of contact for customers exploring our extensive inventory of power tools, welding machines, compressors, generators, and accessories. Your ability to guide clients through product selections, manage stock levels, and maintain an engaging store environment has a direct impact on sales performance, customer loyalty, and repeat business. In today’s competitive retail landscape, exceptional in-store experiences drive higher average transaction values and improved Google search visibility for our branch, contributing to increased online and offline traffic.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
Deliver Exceptional Customer Service
· Greet and assist customers, identify needs, recommend products, and answer technical questions.
· Strive for first-contact resolution on enquiries, ensuring every customer feels valued and informed.
Drive Sales and Upsell Opportunities
· Achieve and exceed individual and branch sales targets through focused product demonstrations and solution selling.
· Upsell complementary items, such as accessories, consumables, and service plans, to increase average order value.
Merchandising and Stock Control
· Receive, unpack, and stock incoming deliveries, ensuring accuracy against purchase orders.
· Conduct regular stock takes, reconcile discrepancies, and maintain optimal inventory levels to prevent out-of-stocks.
· Arrange product displays according to brand guidelines and seasonal promotions, creating an appealing shopping environment.
Maintain Store Standards
· Keep the shop floor clean, organised, and safe by adhering to company housekeeping and health & safety procedures.
· Participate in daily briefings and INVOCOM™ continuous improvement meetings to share insights and implement best practices.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES
Strong Communication
· Ability to explain technical specifications clearly to customers with varying levels of product knowledge.
· Excellent verbal and written English skills; a second South African language is advantageous.
Customer-Centric Mindset
· Empathy and patience when handling questions or resolving issues, ensuring a positive experience.
Teamwork and Reliability
· Collaborative approach to support colleagues in achieving branch objectives, with a willingness to share product knowledge.
· Punctuality and a strong work ethic to cover scheduled hours and occasional peak-period overtime.
Attention to Detail and Numeracy
· Accurate processing of sales transactions, stock counts, and order documentation to minimise errors.
Eagerness to Learn
· Enthusiasm for continuous learning, staying up to date on new tools, machinery innovations, and industry trends.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
· Senior Certificate (Matric) or equivalent qualification is mandatory.
· Entry-level candidates are welcome; prior retail sales, merchandising, or stock control experience is preferred.
· Technical knowledge of DIY tools, hardware, or machinery is a significant advantage.
· Basic computer literacy for POS systems and stock-management software.
WORKING HOURS AND BENEFITS
· Monday–Friday: 08:00 to 17:00 | Saturday: 08:00 to 13:00
