About the Role: Waitron (Food and Beverage Service)

As a Waitron, you will be an essential part of the front-line team, responsible for delivering excellent customer service, ensuring that every guest enjoys a memorable dining experience, and contributing to the hotel’s overall success. You will take orders, serve food and beverages, promote menu items through suggestive selling, and ensure the restaurant and event spaces are kept clean, welcoming, and well-organised.

The ideal candidate will be outgoing, approachable, organised, and committed to exceeding guest expectations. You should be comfortable working in a fast-paced hospitality environment, including shifts, nights, weekends, and public holidays.

Minimum Requirements

• Matric / Grade 12 certificate (Essential)

• A formal hospitality qualification is advantageous

• At least 1 year of waiter or waitron experience within a 3-star or 4-star hospitality property, including banqueting experience

• Experience using Plus Point systems and knowledge of relevant food and beverage service procedures

• High level of customer service orientation with excellent attention to detail

• Well-disciplined, organised, and able to perform under pressure

• Excellent verbal communication skills in English; proficiency in IsiZulu will be an advantage

• High degree of self-motivation, energy, and ambition

• Flexibility to work shifts, including nights, weekends, and public holidays

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Guest Service and Customer Experience

• Greet guests warmly and politely as they enter the restaurant or event area

• Create a positive first impression by projecting a hospitable, friendly, and approachable attitude at all times

• Guide guests through the menu, explaining preparation methods, ingredients, and presentation details to enhance their understanding and dining experience

• Apply suggestive selling techniques to promote food and beverage specials, upsell menu items, and maximise revenue per guest

• Take accurate food and beverage orders and input them into the Plus Point system according to hotel procedures

• Ensure prompt, efficient, and professional service of all food and beverages to guests

Operational and Administrative Responsibilities

• Handle cash, payments, and billing in line with hotel policies and money handling procedures

• Assist with the set-up, resetting, and cleaning of dining areas, ensuring tables, chairs, condiments, utensils, and glassware are prepared to hotel standards

• Prepare and reset conference venues, ensuring decorations, seating arrangements, and service stations are ready for guest use

• Maintain cleanliness of the restaurant, bar, or event area throughout service periods

• Ensure stock levels of condiments, utensils, napkins, and other essentials are maintained

• Report any guest concerns, maintenance issues, or service complaints promptly to supervisors

Guest Departure and Follow-Up

• Engage with guests during and after their meals to ensure satisfaction

• Thank guests upon departure, inviting them to return and reinforcing the hotel’s welcoming environment

• Gather informal feedback where appropriate to help improve service delivery
