Role Overview
Tiger Brands is seeking a qualified and experienced Instrument Technician for its Beverages division based in Germiston, Gauteng. This critical role ensures the reliable operation and maintenance of instrumentation and control systems in the plant. The successful candidate will work closely with electrical and mechanical technicians and operators to maximize plant uptime and product quality while maintaining compliance with safety and technical standards.
This position requires strong diagnostic skills, hands-on experience in preventive and corrective maintenance, and the ability to support operational teams through continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Provide expert operational support to shift-based teams to resolve instrumentation and control-related issues
Ensure consistent plant availability with uptime of more than 95%
Comply with all safety, health, environment, and quality (SHEQ) standards and regulatory requirements
Install, repair, and maintain instrumentation and control systems to ensure accurate, reliable performance
Calibrate equipment and conduct testing procedures to validate instrument accuracy and reliability
Troubleshoot and resolve system issues, replacing or adjusting components as needed
Conduct scheduled preventative maintenance to reduce downtime and maintain system integrity
Maintain comprehensive records of calibration, maintenance activities, and system performance
Collaborate with process operators and team members to ensure optimal equipment utilization
Provide technical training and support to junior technicians and production staff as needed
Qualifications and Experience
Minimum Requirements
Technical diploma or qualification (e.g. S4/N6)
Trade-tested Artisan certification
At least 3 years’ hands-on experience working with industrial instrumentation systems
Sound understanding of Maintenance Systems and Engineering standards
Strong diagnostic, fault-finding, and problem-solving abilities
Familiarity with control systems in a high-speed production or FMCG environment
Key Competencies
Technical expertise in instrumentation and automation systems
Excellent knowledge of calibration techniques and safety protocols
Strong planning, time management, and communication skills
Ability to work under pressure and meet operational targets
