Position Overview: What You’ll Do
As a Groundsman, you will play a vital role in maintaining the visual appeal and cleanliness of the property’s gardens and grounds. Your responsibilities will ensure that all areas are neat, safe, and vibrant for residents, staff, and visitors.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Garden Maintenance

Prune trees and trim overgrown shrubs

Maintain flower beds and implement garden redevelopment plans

Turn soil and weed plant beds
-
Mow lawns and perform edging
-
Conduct manual watering when necessary
Tools & Equipment Management
-
Inspect garden equipment like lawnmowers and trimmers before and after use
-
Clean tools daily and maintain blade sharpness
-
Oil and service machinery as needed
Refuse and Waste Handling

Collect and sort household and garden waste
-
Sanitize bins and ensure safe waste disposal
-
Prepare and load garden waste for removal
General Housekeeping

Maintain cleanliness of workshops, canteens, and security areas

Open and prepare outdoor dining and courtyard areas depending on weather

Sweep paved and synthetic turf areas, including healthcare and courtyards
Perimeter and Structural Maintenance

Inspect perimeter fences weekly for vegetation
-
Spray perimeters monthly to prevent overgrowth

Keep external areas neat and clean
Qualifications and Experience
-
Education: Matric (Senior Certificate) advantageous
-
Experience: At least 1 year in a similar groundskeeping or gardening role

Technical Knowledge:

Gardening techniques and plant care

Horticultural tools and irrigation systems

Health and safety standards in gardening environments

Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift and move heavy items

Capable of performing manual outdoor work
