ROLE OVERVIEW
Thorburn is building a talent pool of experienced and highly motivated Reaction Officers to be placed across Gauteng, Limpopo, and Mpumalanga. These officers will report directly to the Security Manager and play a critical role in safeguarding clients’ property, assets, and personnel. Candidates must have experience in mining, estate, retail, or corporate security settings and be able to implement tactical responses to incidents, emergencies, and operational threats.
This role demands physical readiness, strong communication skills, the ability to respond swiftly to emergencies, and an unwavering commitment to safety, security, and compliance with provincial and national regulations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Patrol premises to prevent and detect signs of intrusion and ensure security of doors, windows, and gates

Monitor surveillance equipment and investigate disturbances

Control access points, verifying identity and authorizing entrance

Respond to alarms and mobilize resources or support services where necessary

Enforce property rules and regulations, including issuing warnings and detaining trespassers

Control traffic and assist in accident response within client premises

Record detailed incident and observation reports, including statements from witnesses and involved parties

Conduct regular equipment checks to ensure operational readiness
-
Provide visible presence to deter potential threats or criminal activities

Support fire prevention and response efforts

Deliver professional customer service to all personnel and visitors
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
-
Grade 12 (Matric) OR Grade 10/11 with 2+ years of related experience

Valid PSIRA Grade A or B certificate

Armed Response Certification
-
Valid Firearm Competency for Handgun, Shotgun, and Rifle
-
Valid driver’s license – essential for mobility between client sites

Proven experience in security environments such as mining, education, corporate, or estates

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Capable of writing accurate, detailed reports

Willingness and ability to relocate if required by operational needs
