mothers2mothers (m2m) is an African-led, award-winning nonprofit organization focused on preventing mother-to-child transmission of HIV, supporting child development, and improving maternal health. With operations in ten African countries, m2m employs women living with HIV as frontline health workers who deliver integrated care in communities and health facilities.

This position is part of a USAID-funded program implemented across Ehlanzeni, Nkangala, and Gert Sibande districts in Mpumalanga Province, in collaboration with Pact and local government bodies such as the Departments of Health (DOH) and Social Development (DSD). The project delivers comprehensive support to children and adolescents living with HIV (CLHIV), from birth to age 20, and their families. The programme will run from 1 July to 15 September 2025, with possible adjustments to timelines.

ROLE OVERVIEW

mothers2mothers seeks a highly motivated and technically skilled Project Officer to manage training, capacity-building, performance monitoring, and stakeholder coordination activities. This role will directly support the scaling of OVC (Orphans and Vulnerable Children) structured interventions, such as RISIHA and Abangane, across the three Mpumalanga districts.

The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of paediatric HIV, experience in USAID-funded programme management, and the ability to coordinate with government stakeholders and implementing partners.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Training and Capacity Building

  • Develop and implement district-wide training plans aligned with the ACHIEVE project workplan and DSD/DOH annual priorities

  • Lead training rollouts to strengthen OVC structured interventions including adolescent HIV support and postnatal care for teen mothers

  • Collaborate with Programmes, Clinical Services, and Linkages teams to enhance coverage of peer-led support groups

  • Create and maintain training reports, attendance registers, and compliance with ACHIEVE and SAG (South African Government) reporting standards

  • Evaluate training effectiveness and ensure ongoing mentorship and technical support

2. Performance Monitoring & Improvement

  • Conduct routine on-site supervision, mentorship, and virtual monitoring to uphold implementation standards

  • Collaborate with the Strategic Information (SI) unit to develop and utilize performance dashboards and tools

  • Monitor project data for trends, challenges, and opportunities to enhance service delivery

  • Coordinate with the SI team to support data-driven quality improvement interventions and capacity building

3. Stakeholder Engagement

  • Represent m2m at provincial and district forums, aligning implementation with local and national strategies

  • Foster and manage key relationships with government departments and partner organisations

  • Support joint planning, implementation, and evaluation with DSD, DOH, CSOs, and other community stakeholders

4. Programme Implementation and Resource Management

  • Provide technical input into project workplans, budgets, and implementation tools

  • Support optimal resource use at district level and assist in managing logistics for trainings and stakeholder events

REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications

  • Degree or equivalent experience in public health, social sciences, or related field

  • Proficient in HIV adherence, disclosure, and pediatric HIV programming

  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel across project districts

Experience

  • At least 3–5 years’ experience working in community-based HIV and health programmes

  • Proven track record in training facilitation, performance monitoring, and coordination with public sector institutions

  • Previous involvement in USAID-funded projects highly desirable

  • Familiarity with DSD and DOH systems, reporting tools, and protocols

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong presentation, facilitation, and training abilities

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English; proficiency in local languages is advantageous

  • Ability to work under pressure, multitask, and manage competing priorities

  • Team player with good interpersonal skills and a results-oriented mindset

  • Strong MS Office and computer literacy, including Excel and Word
